The Maharashtra Government has relaxed the height criteria for the tribal candidates in police recruitment. Towards an inclusive and considerate step, the announcement was confirmed by Thane police on October 6,2024, Sunday. The adjustment was, the height criteria was reduced by 5 cm. It was then formalised through a notification issued by state’s home department on Friday, October 4,2024.
Before, that height requirement for male candidates stood at 165cm and 155cm for female candidates. The recent change was followed by a meeting organized in January between Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Vivek Pandit, chairman of the state-level scheduled Area Review Committee, where the concerns of the tribal community were discussed.
The Indian tech Infra posted on X, “The Maharashtra government has relaxed the police recruitment height requirement for tribal candidates by 5 cm.”
Apart from height, the other criteria for being eligible for police recruitment are stated below: The eligibility criteria for the Maharashtra Police recruitment vary by the role and include educational qualifications, age limits, and physical qualifications:
Maharashtra Police Sub-inspector Candidates should have:
-Have passed 10+2 from a recognized board
-Have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university
-Be proficient in Marathi
-Be between 18 and 28 years old for open category candidates, or 33 years old for reserved category candidates
For Maharashtra Police Constable
-Candidates must have :
-Have passed class 12th board exams from a recognized school education board in India
-Be between 18 and 28 years old as of March 31, 2024, for open category candidates, or 33 years old for reserved category candidates
-Be an Indian citizen or hold permanent citizenship or residency in India
-Meet physical qualifications, such as height and chest measurements
-Physical qualifications
For males, the height restriction is up to 165 cm, and the chest should be 79-84 cm
For females, the height imitation is up to 155 cm.
However with recent updates , now the tribal candidates will be give 5 cm height relaxation.
It is a forward and inclusive decison taken by the Maharashtra Government.
The relaxation was announced on October 6, 2024.
